You can now
check status of your case with INS on the Internet
On September 25,
2002, INS announced a new system to allow people to easily check on the
status of cases, which were filed with its Regional Offices on the
Internet. All you need is your case number, which is found on the filing
receipt you receive a few weeks after you file your case. Please click here
to check.
Who can uses this service
- Employers or employees who applied for a visa for their employees.
(Filed forms I-129, I-539, or I-140
- Employees who applied for a "green card" interview in the
US (Form I-485)
- Employees who applied for work and or travel permission (I-765 and
1-131)
- A "green card" holder applying for a re-entry permit
(I-131)
- A "green card" holder who is applying for "green
card" for his/her spouses (I-130)
- A person applying for US citizenship
- Anyone who properly filed a case with a INS Regional Office
Who cannot uses this service
- Anyone applying for a "green card" interview at a US
Embassy outside the U.S
- A US citizen applying for a "green card" for his/her
spouse
- A "green card" holder who needs to replace his/her
"green card"
- Employers or employees who filed for a labor certification with the
Department of Labor.
However,
you can check Department of Labor's processing times by clicking here.
This will only give you general processing times, not the actual status of
your case
